Creating a genuine employee video to showcase your company doesn’t have to be complicated. With smartphones and a few simple steps, you can quickly create a vertical video that highlights your company’s culture and how it is to work there. The aim of this guide is to help you create one or two general employee video stories that can be used across the organization, regardless of position or department. These videos are ideal for job ads and career pages, showcasing the authentic company culture in a way that’s relevant to all roles.

Why use video?

  • Increase the number of relevant applicants: By showcasing your company culture through video, you attract candidates who align with your values and environment.
  • Increase view time on the job ad or career page: Engaging videos hold attention longer, making potential candidates more likely to explore the rest of your content.
  • Disqualify people that don’t fit your culture: A clear, authentic video helps potential candidates self-assess if they’re the right fit, saving time for both parties.
  • Build connections before they start: Candidates can feel a sense of connection to the company and its people, making the transition smoother if they join.
  • Provide a true window into your company: People get an authentic view of your workplace, helping them visualize what it’s like to be part of your company and team..

1. Select Employees

Pick employees who are enthusiastic and comfortable on camera. They don’t need to be pros—just authentic and passionate about the company. A mix of roles and departments will showcase diversity.

Tip: Look for individuals who naturally exude passion about their work. Their energy will shine through on camera. Aim for a mix of roles and departments to showcase diversity within your company.

2. Let Them Film Themselves

Have employees film themselves (or get help from a colleague) using their phones in vertical mode. Encourage natural lighting, minimal background noise, and a simple setting. Remind them that the goal is authenticity, not perfection. This means, avoid a manuscript at all cost.

Tip: Natural lighting and simple, quiet settings will make the video look polished without professional equipment.

3.  Ask Simple, Engaging Questions

Guide employees with a few easy prompts to capture their genuine experiences. Example questions include:

  • "What do you enjoy most about working here?"
  • "What’s your favorite part of the workday?"
  • "How has the company helped you grow?"

By answering these questions, your employees will provide authentic insights into the company’s culture, making the video more relatable and engaging. It’s also important that employees answer using the question in their response, like this:

  • "I enjoy working at Gobi because..."
  • "My favorite part of the workday is..."
  • "Gobi helped me grow into my role as a [position] because..."

Tip: Open-ended questions work best for drawing out real, heartfelt answers.

4. Collect and Upload to Gobi

Once employees have filmed their responses, ask them to send the videos to you or upload them directly to the Gobi Stories platform.

5. Edit the Video Lightly

Use Gobi Stories' editing tools to trim clips and keep the focus on authentic employee stories. Aim for a video length of 1-3 minute tops, and try to keep each section/chapter below 15 seconds to keep the pace high and the viewers engaged

Tip: Keep the edits minimal to preserve the authentic feel of the video.

6. Publish and Share

Once edited, share the video across your channels to give a real inside look at your company culture. We recommend the following channels like your website, job ads, career pages, Karrierestories and SoMe.

In just a few steps, you can create powerful videos that can be used across job ads and career pages, offering a glimpse of your company’s true culture through the voices of your team.
